Gas & Brake Pedal Extenders:

Sitting too close to a driver-side airbag is not only uncomfortable, but dangerous as well!  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recommend that drivers be seated as far away from the steering wheel of the vehicle they’re driving as possible.  A common rule of thumb is to have a distance of no less than 10” between the wheel and the driver.  Sitting closer than this can put you at a higher risk of injury if you’re in an accident and you airbag deploys.

While the option exists to disconnect your airbag, doing so renders one of your vehicle’s most important and effective safety features useless.  Fortunately, with pedal extenders from Main Mobility, you can drive safely and confidently!  Our gas, brake and clutch pedal extenders offer a safe, simple and inexpensive alternative for those who are of short stature, pregnant, or have back, hip or knee problems.

Gas, brake & clutch pedal extenders are ideal for those who are:

  1. Of short-stature (2’6” – 5’2” tall)

  2. Overweight

  3. Have arthritis of the ankle and toes

  4. Weak in transferring from gas to brake pedal

  5. Have back, knee or hip problems

  6. Pregnant – sitting to close to the steering wheel

  7. Have Go-Karts or ATV’s

Pedal extenders come in all different sizes from 1 inch to 12 inches.  Contact one of our mobility consultants for the pedal extender that’s best for you!

3300KV/3300FV Push/Rock with Removable Foam Grip Veigel Handle

The NEW Veigel handle has been designed to maximize leverage with almost twice the mechanical advantage as the traditional handle. This new design improves pedal feel and limits the accidental braking during acceleration common with other push/rock hand controls. Both handle styles come standard with a soft rubber knob grip or an optional soft foam grip for added comfort.

3400K/3400F Hand Control with Straight Handle

Push to brake and pull back to accelerate. This hand control can be adjusted to accommodate several different leverage settings depending on individual needs.  Also available with a knob grip.

3400KX/3400FX Hand Control with Offset Handle

The Push/Pull hand control with foam grip handle has the same brackets as the 3500.  It’s simple to adjust the gas & brake, and it makes for smoother, more efficient operation. This hand control is ideal for taller drivers that have limited leg room or commute short distances regularly. This handle will also accept horn and dimmer switches.  Also available with a foam grip.

3500KX/3500FX Hand Control with Offset Handle

This hand control has everything the 3500K offers, plus additional features and is recommended by driver evaluators.  The offset handle is fully adjustable - 360 degrees to provide additional knee clearance, more leverage or to locate the handle closer to the turn signal. This hand control can also be used to adjust the angle or pitch of grips.  The 3500F Foam Grip hand control was designed two inches longer in length than most hand controls, ensuring a comfortable driving control and greater leverage when braking or accelerating.  Also available with a knob grip.

4200CP/4200CPC Compact Hand Control by Veigel

With their proven technology, sleek and elegant design - that is how the Compact hand control is made. The function is simple: to accelerate, pull the ergonomically shaped handle backwards, a slight push in the forward direction operates the brake. The mechanical brake lock can be easily engaged with the push of a button. The hand control can be folded out of the way when not in use.  This hand control can also be upgraded to the Compact Commander, which adds a five button switch to control secondary controls, like turn signals, wipers, horn etc…

3502WHD/3502W Hand Control with Wrist Support

This hand control offers a foam grip handle with a soft foam wrist support and side hand guard for additional leverage, comfort and convenience for the driver. Both foam grips are soft, washable, and replaceable and are not heat sensitive. Our exclusive center pivot allows the grip to be pivoted away from the door for more hand clearance. Available with an offset handle and with horn & dimmer.  It is also available with a tri-pin wrist support with either a straight or offset handle.

3700 Push/Pull Quad

A Tri-Pin Grip that is convenient, comfortable and fully adjustable is used to activate the push/pull movement of this control.  This grip may also be custom fitted to operate the turn signals, horn or dimmer.  The hand control can be mounted for either left or right hand operation in most full size and lowered floor minivans.

Push/Rock

The original and the best, the Sure Grip Push/Rock system, has become known for its comfort, precision and overall safety.

Unlike other hand controls styles, the push/rock system puts the operating handle in a vertical position; the driver eases the handle back to accelerate and pushes forward to brake. This unique rocking motion allows full-range braking and acceleration with minimal hand travel while keeping the hand in a natural position.

Sure Grip’s Push/Rock controls are known for having the easiest gas in the industry today thus, allowing for hours of fatigue free driving. The push/rock style will give you the driving experience you have been longing for.

Sure Grip hand control designs prevents contact with legs or knees at higher speeds. The upright handle also allows the installation of controls in smaller vehicles or tight spaces other controls would not fit. Controls do not impede pedal use.

is an accelerator lock out device that comes standard on all of Sure Grip’s hand controls, and is an added safety feature for the driver or those that share the vehicle. With the push of a button or knob, the accelerator function of the hand control can be disabled and help prevent accidents through misuse of the control by mechanics, valets or any other unqualified user.  is available in both electronic and manual formats.

Push/Right Angle

Unlike other Push Right/Angle controls, the Sure Grip Push Right/Angle’s body doesn’t pivot or move when the accelerator is applied. The pivot point for the Sure Grip control is on the left-hand side of the wheel, and only the handle pivots. A stationary main body has many benefits for the driver including:

  1. Increased leg room for getting in and out of the vehicle, as many installs allow brake rod to pass through the dash

  2. Full acceleration without the control hitting the drivers lap

  3. Greater two-handed contact with the steering wheel due to the shortened stroke of the handle

In addition to the benefits enjoyed as a result of the stationary main body, drivers will also appreciate the other features that Sure Grip’s Push Right/Angle offers including:

  1. Superior pedal feel, with constant acceleration and no “dead spots”

  2. Lower fatigue while driving

  3. Limited modifications to the vehicles dash

Push/Pull

The Sure Grip Push/Pull hand control uses the same movement to apply the gas and brake as other Push/Pull controls; however the pivot point for the Sure Grip control is on the left-hand side of the wheel close to the handle, this allows for a shorter stroke and greater leverage. In addition to the pivot point, the handles position is at a slight angle, an angle that makes a big difference to the driver. The benefits of Sure Grip’s unique Push/Pull hand control design include:

  1. Less strain on fingers and thumb

  2. Flexible hand positions for lower fatigue and cramping while driving

  3. The ability for both hands to keep contact with the steering wheel

In addition to the benefits enjoyed as a result of the handle and its position, drivers will also appreciate the other features that Sure Grip’s Push/Pull offers including:

Push/Twist

Pivot Point

The Sure Grip Push/Twish control uses the same motorcycle style acceleration as other Push/Twist controls, but has an auxiliary handle that makes the twisting motion easier and allows for longer, more comfortable driving.

In addition to the unique benefits enjoyed with our other hand controls, such as increased leg room and ease of use, drivers will also appreciate the other features that the Sure Grip Push/Twist offers including:

  1. Superior pedal feel, with constant acceleration and no “dead spots”

The Handling You Need

Sure Grip has always given its users great control of Their vehicles. Now that Sure Grip has hand controls designed specifically for smaller off-road vehicles that same control can be enjoyed wherever you decide to go.

What is the Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund?

The Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund (CICRF) helps families bear the excessive financial burdens associated with the care of children with special health care needs and disabilities. CICRF is a payor of last resort. It provides financial assistance for Massachusetts families with children experiencing a medical condition requiring services that are not covered by a private insurer, federal or state assistance, or any other financial source.

The Fund is designed to act as a safety net for families who have excessive expenses related to a child's medical needs. The family may be responsible for these expenses due to:

  1. A lack of insurance or dependent coverage

  2. Expenses that are greater than the maximum benefit allowed by their insurance company

  3. Pre-existing conditions, co-payments, and other expenses that are not covered by insurance

CICRF is a reimbursement program. The expense must have already been incurred in order to be eligible for the Fund and to receive reimbursement. In cases of extreme medical emergency, the CICRF Commission may grant approval before the expense is incurred.

NOTE: Because the amount in the Fund varies from year to year, and the number of requests varies as well, CICRF cannot guarantee funding in all cases. Families are advised not to assume or make financial decisions based on the expectation that the Fund will pay, even if they have received payment for a similar expense in the past.

Who is eligible to apply?

In order to be eligible for the Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund:

The family's out-of-pocket expenses related to their child’s medical condition must be more than 10% of the family's gross annual income up to $100,000 and 15% of any portion of the annual family income that is above $100,000, in a given twelve month period.

The applicant must be a resident of Massachusetts.

The applicant must be 21 years old or younger at the time the expenses were incurred.

The applicant must be under the care of a licensed health care provider with staff privileges at a hospital licensed or accredited to provide pediatric or neonatal care.

The Fund will consider expenses incurred within the last 24 months prior to the application date.

What expenses are covered?

The following expenses may be eligible for payment/reimbursement if found to be reasonable. The categories include, but are not limited to:

  1. Payments to health care providers

  2. Specialized pediatric ambulatory care

  3. Addiction/mental health services

  4. Acute or specialized hospital care, both in and outpatient

  5. Medical equipment or disposable medical supplies

  6. Medications

  7. Medically related home and vehicle modifications

  8. Medical transportation

  9. Home health care

  10. Related travel expenses for out of state treatment

  11. Following special review, experimental treatment or medications

The Commission will consider other reasonable expenses related to the treatment, palliation, habilitation, or rehabilitation of a child's illness or medical treatment.

CICRF may pay for expenses related to experimental treatment in certain circumstances. In general, however, the Fund will not pay for treatment in Phase I clinical trials.

Only expenses for which the family is directly responsible as a result of the child's medical condition may be considered for payment or reimbursement. For example, expenses covered by health or other insurance cannot be included in the calculation of total eligible expenses.

In all cases, CICRF should be considered the payor of last resort after the family makes all reasonable attempts to pursue other funding.

Download a list of eligible expenses in PDF or in RTF format.

How does a family apply for the Fund?

The application can be downloaded from this site. You may print the blank application form and fill it out by hand and mail it. To maintain confidentiality, the application form cannot be transmitted electronically.

If you need help in translating or completing the application, please call the 800 number located at the bottom of each web page and CICRF staff will assist you.
